OLD TOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING:

December 4,2008

The bi-monthly meeting of OTNA was held today at 5:30 pm, and called to order by Dr.Moore, Pres.  Second, Linda Harkey

Old Business:

Neighborhood Watch.  Officer Ryan Dunfrey was present to give an update and pass out a “summary of activity” for criminal activity in the area.

There was also a holiday security checklist attached.  The takehome message was, in a 12month period, there were only 13 burglaries, and 12 of these were from parked cars, most of them unlocked.

New Business:

There has been discussion over the proposed purchase of property in Old Town by the Leon High School.  Several neighbors in the local area of the home at issue voiced their concerns previous to this meeting, which made its way to School Board, which then decided to wait on the formation of a “long range” community plan before they made any purchase of property in the neighborhood.

We opened the discussion to there floor and the majority of the remainder of the meeting was spent on this topic.

While the homeowner trying to sell their property to the school objected to OTNA being involved in a ‘negative’ opinion on such a sale, and the neighbors adjacent to the property in question being clearly opposed to the unrestricted sale of a property that might become rezoned as a parking lot or other business use.

As president, I reiterated OTNA’s position that while we may have members that have varying opinions on the matter, OTNA is specifically not trying to prevent or force any sale of private property.  Furthermore, we have not made an active attempt to convey the opinions of OTNA to the school board, though we may respond when asked.

The conclusion and plan is to set up a specific sub-committee to meet in mid-january to further discuss the issue.  Any members that wish to be a part of this committee should email me and I will let them know of our meeting date.
